Ski & Mountain Tourism
There are 16 mountains in Bulgaria which cover about one third of the country’s territory. The unique caves, rock phenomena, waterfalls and ski slopes attract a great number of tourists. The mountain climate in Bulgaria is very healthy – moderately cool in summer and moderately cold in winter, with a lot of sunshine and prolonged hold of the snow cover. That is why Bulgarian mountains offer various opportunities for active tourism during all seasons - walking, hiking, caving, rock climbing or camping in the summer and skiing and snowboarding in the winter. The mountains of Rila, Pirin, the Rhodopes, Vitosha and Stara Planina offer suitable ski tracks and ski equipment for skiing tourism and all kinds of winter sports. The ski season in Bulgaria is up to 190 days. The total length of the ski slopes is more than 80 km.
