Diving
The main diving centers are in Nessebar, Sozopol and Varna. Although Bulgaria is not yet known for the possibilities of diving activities, it is today possible to enjoy the wonders of the numerous shipwrecks of the Black Sea as well as a magnificent ancient Roman port town submerged not far from Varna. Most of the shipwrecks dive sites are accessible from the shore or by small boats such as. One of the highlights of the Varna diving region is certainly the ancient Roman port city submerged in 12m of water some 40 km north of Varna. The dive site is surrounded by an amazing archaeological site on land where ancient Roman tombs were found and dug out decades ago. It is believed that the treasure of Alexander the Great is buried in the vicinity!
Diving conditions in Bulgaria are excellent, but the waters the visibility can be poor. The best period for diving activities is the summer time (between June and September), when the air temperature at the Bulgarian Black Sea cost reach 35 C and the water temperature 23 C.
Bulgaria is also an excellent place to start diving courses, as the coastline allows shallow and protected waters to accommodate the training of beginners.
